Privacy Policy

This website is operated by The JRNY podcast. In this policy, we, us and our refer to The JRNY. Our website is https://thejrny.au.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Some small businesses are not bound by that Act, but we aim to meet those standards regardless.

We keep data collection to a minimum. This website has no member accounts, and we do not collect payment details or ask for sensitive information.

The information we may hold is:

• Email correspondence. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you provide it, and whatever you choose to write.
• Contact form submissions. If you send us a message through a form on this site, we receive what you put in it, along with the technical details our form provider records to prevent spam.
• Website usage data. Aggregated, statistical information about how the site is used, collected through Google Analytics. See the section below.
• Standard server logs. Our hosting provider records technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps. This is used to serve the site and keep it secure.
• Information you offer as a guest. If you appear on the podcast, we hold the contact and biographical details needed to produce and promote the episode.

We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use this site, for example which episodes are read most and which pages people land on. This helps us decide what to make next.

Google Analytics sets cookies on your device and collects information such as your approximate location, device and browser, the pages you view and how you arrived. We have enabled IP anonymisation. We look at this data in aggregate. We do not use it to identify individuals, and we have not enabled advertising features or the sale of this data.

Google processes this information on our behalf and may store it outside Australia. You can opt out across all sites using the Google Analytics opt out browser add on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop you using this site.

We also use Google Search Console, which reports on how the site appears in Google search results. It shows us aggregated search data and does not identify individuals.

We use personal information only to:

• reply to your enquiry or topic suggestion
• arrange, produce and promote podcast episodes
• understand in aggregate how the site is used, so we can improve it
• operate and secure this website
• meet our legal obligations

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Episode pages include an embedded Spotify player. When that player loads, Spotify may set its own cookies and receive technical information such as your IP address, in line with Spotify's own privacy policy. We do not control that, and we do not receive listener data from it.

Links to Apple Podcasts, YouTube and our social accounts are ordinary outbound links. Once you follow one, that platform's own privacy policy applies.

The third parties we rely on to run this site are our hosting provider Vercel, Google Analytics and Google Search Console, the Spotify player embed, and our contact form provider. Each handles data under its own privacy policy.

Some of the services we rely on, including our hosting provider and the podcast platforms, store and process data outside Australia, including in the United States. By using this website or contacting us, you consent to that handling. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers with their own privacy commitments.

We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access. This site is served over HTTPS. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. We keep personal information only as long as we need it, then delete or de identify it.

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us at hello@thejrny.au and we will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to verify who you are first.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information or your complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

We may update this policy as the website changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we start collecting information in a new way, for example by adding a newsletter, we will update this policy to say so.
